Purchasing a previously owned merchant vessel can be risky as they are technically sophisticated and are high-value assets with complex operational and technical requirements. Some buyers get emotionally/commercially caught up in such a purchase and often miss mechanical, cosmetic, and safety issues during visual inspections and incorrect document interpretation. These problems are compounded if the vessel being purchased is located in another city/country and is purchased before being seen in person. To eliminate much of the anxiety and to obtain a generally accurate picture of the condition of the vessels, many buyers choose to have a pre-purchase inspection done before the sale is final.
